Colorations in Coney groupers can vary from individual to individual. They may be red, bicolor red and white, or some variants are golden yellow. The entire body is covered with tiny black spots or blue spots. These large fish are predators, feeding mostly on crustaceans and small fish. In captivity, they prefer to eat frozen foods like shrimp or clam. Groupers tend to be fine housed with fish of similar size and temperament. They are aggressive with other groupers however, due to their territoriality. They won’t bother corals and enjoy a rocky reef environment. They grow quite large, so be sure your aquarium provides adequate hiding and swimming areas.
